AnimaWings (code A2) is a Romanian airline, therefore from the European Union: Regulation (EC) No 261/2004 applies to all its flights departing from the EU and those arriving in the EU, including those from outside the Union.
The situation in October 2026
On September 30, 2026, AnimaWings requested insolvency proceedings with reorganization. On October 14, the Bucharest Court rejected the request (the ruling is not final), and the company's creditors will return to court on November 11. The company has extended the suspension of all flights until November 15, 2026. Therefore, flights during this period appear as cancelled on airport boards.
For a flight cancelled less than 14 days before departure, you are entitled to compensation in addition to the ticket refund. If insolvency is indeed declared, claims for money to the company are usually registered as claims with the insolvency practitioner, within a deadline set by the court. Therefore, it is worth submitting your claim now, rather than in a few months.
When you receive compensation from AnimaWings
- The flight arrived at the final destination with at least 3 hours delay (the arrival time counts, not the departure time).
- The flight was cancelled and you found out less than 14 days before departure.
- You were denied boarding (overbooking) or missed a connection in a single booking due to a delayed flight.
- Amount: €250 for up to 1,500 km, €400 between 1,500 and 3,500 km (and for all EU flights over 1,500 km), €600 for over 3,500 km.
- You do not receive compensation if the delay was caused by weather, an air traffic control strike, or other extraordinary circumstances. Technical defects and airline staff strikes are not extraordinary circumstances.
- In Romania, you have 3 years from the flight date to claim your money.
How to claim the money yourself from AnimaWings
- Fill out the form on animawings.com, under the "Compensation request" type: https://www.animawings.com/en/claims (booking code, email, name, flight, date, message).
- Or send the request in writing to the company's headquarters: Anima Wings Aviation S.A., Șos. București–Ploiești nr. 172–176, building A1, 2nd floor, Bucharest.
- AnimaWings states they respond within 60 days of receiving a complete request.
- If they refuse or do not respond, you can file a complaint with ANPC for flights departing from Romania.
Assignment and representation at AnimaWings
AnimaWings' terms and conditions contain no rules regarding claims submitted through recovery companies or via assignment. Being a Romanian company, the Civil Code applies: you can assign the right to compensation without the company's agreement, and the assignment takes effect once the company receives written notification (art. 1566 and 1578).
