Lufthansa City Airlines (code VL) is the regional airline of the Lufthansa Group, based in Munich. It is a European Union airline, so Regulation (EC) No 261/2004 applies to all its flights departing from the EU and those arriving in the EU. On your ticket, the flight may also appear with a Lufthansa (LH) number; the rights remain the same.
When you receive compensation from Lufthansa City Airlines
- The flight arrived at its final destination with at least a 3-hour delay (arrival time counts, not departure time).
- The flight was cancelled and you were notified less than 14 days before departure.
- You were denied boarding (overbooking) or missed a connection in a single booking due to a delayed flight.
- Amounts: €250 for up to 1,500 km, €400 between 1,500 and 3,500 km (and for all EU flights over 1,500 km), €600 for over 3,500 km.
- You do not receive compensation if the delay was caused by weather, an air traffic control strike, or other extraordinary circumstances. Technical defects and airline staff strikes are not considered extraordinary circumstances.
- In Romania, you have 3 years from the flight date to claim your money.
How to claim the money yourself
- Fill out the Lufthansa Group compensation form: https://www.lufthansa.com/de/en/support/fast-compensation
- Enter your booking code and flight details, then attach your boarding pass and IBAN.
- If they refuse, you can request free mediation through Schlichtung Reise & Verkehr (Berlin).
- If they refuse or do not respond within 30 days, you can file a complaint with ANPC for flights departing from Romania; for flights from other countries, contact the national body of the departure country (the official list is on the European Commission website).
Assignment and representation
Claims for Lufthansa City Airlines are processed through the Lufthansa system. Lufthansa has no clause in its general conditions of carriage (October 2025 version) that prohibits assignment. The Lufthansa compensation form asks who is submitting the claim: you, you along with others in the booking, or a third party on behalf of the passenger. In the latter case, passenger authorization is required.

Let us recover your money from Lufthansa City Airlines
You are entitled to compensation, but claims with the Lufthansa group can be time-consuming and sometimes require paperwork. We handle all of this for you.
- It takes 2 minutes. Enter your flight, date, and email, and we will check the actual delay for free using flight data.
- No upfront costs. Our commission is 25% and you only pay it if we collect your money. If Lufthansa City Airlines doesn't pay, you owe nothing.
- We handle the paperwork. If Lufthansa requests a signed original transfer form, we will prepare it and send it via post.
- We take care of everything else: we monitor the 30-day deadline, follow up with the airline, and if they refuse without valid reason, we notify ANPC. You won't have to send another email.
- You receive 75% of the collected amount directly into your account within 5 business days of collection. You can check your claim status anytime in the app under "Tickets".
