Lufthansa (code LH) is Germany's national airline and a European Union company. Regulation (EC) No 261/2004 applies to all its flights departing from the EU and those arriving in the EU, including those from outside the Union, such as flights between Bucharest, Cluj, Iași, Sibiu, Timișoara, and Frankfurt or Munich.
When you receive compensation from Lufthansa
- The flight arrived at its final destination with at least a 3-hour delay (the arrival time counts, not the departure time).
- The flight was cancelled and you found out less than 14 days before departure.
- You were denied boarding (overbooking) or missed a connection within a single booking due to a delayed flight.
- Amount: €250 for up to 1,500 km, €400 between 1,500 and 3,500 km (and for all flights within the EU over 1,500 km), €600 for over 3,500 km.
- You do not receive compensation if the delay was caused by weather, an air traffic control strike, or other extraordinary circumstances. Technical defects and airline staff strikes are not considered extraordinary circumstances.
- In Romania, you have 3 years from the flight date to claim your money.
How to claim the money yourself from Lufthansa
- Complete the Lufthansa compensation form: https://www.lufthansa.com/de/en/support/fast-compensation
- Enter your booking code and flight, then choose who is submitting the claim (you, you and others in the booking, or a third party).
- Attach your boarding pass and enter the IBAN where you want the money sent.
- If Lufthansa refuses, you can request free mediation from Schlichtung Reise & Verkehr (Berlin), the body that Lufthansa participates in.
- If they refuse or do not respond within 30 days, you can file a complaint with ANPC for flights departing from Romania; for flights from other countries, contact the national body of the departure country (the official list is on the European Commission website).
Assignment and representation at Lufthansa
Lufthansa has no clause prohibiting assignment in its general conditions of carriage (October 2025 version). The Lufthansa compensation form asks who is submitting the claim: you, you together with others in the booking, or a third party on behalf of the passenger. In the latter case, the passenger's authorization is required. German law allows assignment without the airline's consent, and German courts have overturned clauses that prohibited it. However, Lufthansa may request the hand-signed original of the assignment deed before paying, which can prolong the process.

Let us recover your money from Lufthansa
You are entitled to compensation, but Lufthansa is known for unanswered claims and requests for paperwork. We do all of this for you.
- Takes 2 minutes. Enter your flight, date, and email, and we will check the actual delay using flight data for free.
- No upfront costs. Our commission is 25% and you only pay it if we collect the money. If Lufthansa doesn't pay, you owe nothing.
- We handle the paperwork. If Lufthansa requests a signed original transfer of rights, we prepare it and send it via post.
- We take care of everything else: we monitor the 30-day deadline, follow up with the airline, and if they refuse without reason, we notify ANPC. You won't have to send another email.
- You receive 75% of the collected amount directly into your account within 5 working days of collection. You can check your claim status anytime in the app under "Tickets".
