TAROM (RO) is the national airline of Romania and pays compensation of €250, €400, or €600 for flights delayed by more than 3 hours, cancelled, or with denied boarding, according to Regulation (EC) No 261/2004. TAROM is an EU-based company, so the regulation applies to all its flights departing from the EU and those arriving in the EU, including those from outside the Union. You can claim money for flights from recent years, not just recent ones.
When you receive compensation from TAROM
- The flight arrived at its final destination with at least a 3-hour delay (the arrival time counts, not the departure time).
- The flight was cancelled and you were informed less than 14 days before departure.
- You missed a connection due to a delayed TAROM flight or were denied boarding (overbooking).
- Amounts: €250 for up to 1,500 km, €400 between 1,500 and 3,500 km (and for all flights within the EU over 1,500 km), €600 for over 3,500 km.
- You do not receive compensation if the delay was caused by weather, an air traffic control strike, or other extraordinary circumstances. Technical defects and TAROM staff strikes are not considered extraordinary circumstances.
Cash or voucher from TAROM
TAROM offers you a choice: cash (€250, €400, or €600, depending on distance), a higher-value voucher (€350, €500, or €700), usable only on TAROM flights for one year and non-refundable, or Flying Blue miles (20,000, 30,000, or 40,000), only if you are a member. The voucher is higher in value, but you lose it if you do not fly with TAROM within the next year. If the alternative flight offered by TAROM arrived at most 2, 3, or 4 hours after the original time (depending on distance), the amount may be reduced by half.
How to claim the money yourself from TAROM
- Complete the "Flight Claims" form on tarom.ro: https://www.tarom.ro/informatii-pasageri/asistenta/sesizari-sugestii-si-reclamatii/reclamatii-legate-de-zbor
- Or write to [email protected] (the address provided by TAROM for Regulation 261/2004 claims) or by mail: Calea Bucureștilor nr. 224 F, Otopeni, Ilfov county.
- Phone (daily 08:00–22:00): 021 9978, 0800 500 131 (Toll-free), 0371 529 000.
- If they refuse or do not respond within 30 days, you can file a complaint with ANPC for flights departing from Romania; for flights from another country, with the national body of the departure country.
What you need when applying
- Your ticket number (the 13 digits on your electronic ticket; TAROM tickets start with 281) and booking code.
- Flight number and date, origin, and destination.
- A copy of your ticket or boarding pass.
- For cash payment: account holder's name, bank, IBAN, SWIFT/BIC code, and account currency. TAROM has stated that nearly 9 out of 10 requests lacked all these details, which delayed payment.
Assignment and representation at TAROM
TAROM does not publish specific rules for claims submitted through recovery companies or via assignment. TAROM is a Romanian company, so the Civil Code applies: you can assign the right to compensation to a company without the airline's consent, and the assignment takes effect regarding TAROM once the company receives written notification (Art. 1566 and 1578). From that moment, TAROM pays the company, and the company transfers your share to you. Unlike Wizz Air, at TAROM you do not have to apply first yourself, no assignment fee is deducted, and a notarized signature is not required.

Let us recover your money from TAROM
You are entitled to compensation, but filing a claim with TAROM takes time: you need the ticket number, full bank details, tracking deadlines, follow-ups, and potentially ANPC. We do all of this for you.
- It takes 2 minutes. Enter your flight, date, and email, and we will check the actual delay for free using flight data.
- No upfront payment. Our commission is 25% and you only pay it if we collect the money. If TAROM doesn't pay, you owe nothing.
- The claim is complete from the start. TAROM stated that 9 out of 10 claims were missing necessary payment details. Ours is sent with everything required: the assignment notice, the signed contract, and your bank details.
- We claim cash, not vouchers. TAROM vouchers expire in one year and can only be used on TAROM flights.
- We handle everything that follows: we track the 30-day deadline, follow up with the airline, and if they refuse without reason, we contact ANPC. You don't have to send another email.
- You receive 75% of the collected amount directly into your account within 5 business days of collection. You can check your claim status anytime in the app under "Tickets".
